Not to be outdone by the governor, yesterday in a bit of "authentic frontier gibberish," the state legislative Health Care Task Force voted to send to the Legislature a resolution opposing federal health care reform—whatever it might be. No matter that the bill "doesn’t really even exist yet," as House Minority Leader John Rusche (D-Lewiston) pointed out, the task force voted to go on record as agin' it and recommended the Legislature do the same.
Chairman Dean Cameron (R-Rupert) is apparently "appalled" at perceived constitutional violations in both versions of the current federal legislation, including a mandate to purchase insurance. Apparently he is not appalled at his or the task force's own hypocrisy.
From The Political Game:
If they each believe it is unconstitutional for the federal government to ask its citizens to purchase health insurance, what is it then if the state they represent requires some of its residents to purchase health insurance? Irony? Hypocrisy? You tell me.
As chairman of the Joint Finance and Appropriation Committee JFAC, Senator Cameron should know that here in Idaho since 2003 the State Board of Education has enforced a policy requiring full fee-paying college students attending classes in this state maintain adequate health insurance.
Some fine "authentic frontier gibberish" indeed.
