In a Twin Falls Times-News letter to the editor today, Gary Eller has a response to Zeb Bell, who last week made news after he and his guest, Frosty Wooldridge, used racist and degrading language when talking about Senator Barack Obama on Bell's radio show.
Driving shows like Zeb's underground does not eliminate hate; it simply hides it, which leaves those of us who disagree with Zeb's opinions with a dilemma. Here's one possible solution. Given that people call talk radio for the same reason a drunk leans against a lamppost - for support not illumination - the answer is to break the incestuous, circular logic found on talk radio by taking it to a larger audience.
He then challenges Bell, his supporters or sponsors to answer the following questions:
Please explain why the comment that Obama is the "precursor of the Antichrist" isn't bigotry?
Why it is acceptable to tell Sunday school children that "only an insane person" would vote for Obama?
Why Obama isn't a "real" American? Why electing a "Negro" president will lead to an increase in welfare payments and food stamps?
Why a black-white relationship should evoke a "trailer trash" image of the woman?
Why Christian credentials are required of politicians? And, the latest rant, why God has inflicted Ted Kennedy with cancer as punishment for his position on abortion? Please feel free to add anything else considered being an affront to all "real" patriotic Americans.
Bell was scheduled to have Frosty Wooldrigde call in to apologize for his remarks on his show today. As of yet, no reports are available.
Update 6.18.08: The Political Game has more, including a report on the scheduled apology.
