I really tried to get worked up over the news that five additional men, four willing to disclose their names, had come forward to the Idaho Statesman with descriptions of their encounters with Senator Larry Craig. I couldn't do it. The Statesman did its best, printing detailed accounts, posting audio clips of the sometimes excruciatingly descriptive interviews and revealing the evidence they'd uncovered trying to separate fact from fiction.
Any other year, any other Senator, any other scandal, any other anything. But I just can't do it. I've had enough of Larry Craig and nothing short of some admission from him will likely be enough to nudge me out of apathy to all things Craig.
What began as a shocking scandal in August with every twist and turn leaving me more incredulous than the last, has become an expected and unsurprising non-event. Appalling news has become the mundane; the story of the eccentric aunt or deranged cousin told at family reunions and holiday parties, "Oh, you'll never guess what crazy Larry did this time."
Of course, in keeping with the Larry Craig paradigm, he denies this new report.
However, despite the fact the Idaho Statesman has decided to pursue its own agenda and print these falsehoods without any facts to back them up, I won’t let this paper’s attempt to malign my name stop me from continuing my work to serve the people of Idaho.
Poor ol' Larry Craig.
You know, at some point, even the family of an eccentric aunt must consider assisted living arrangements, by jiminy.
I hear ya, MG. At this point, very few people believe that Craig is not gay. So rather than being shocking, these revelations (most of which had been seen online over the past few months) only offer further evidence of a man who has lived a sad, closeted life.
I half expect him to follow Trent Lott's example and re-resign before December 31 so he can start lobbying in one year instead of two. Give him another two weeks, and we'll see.

I really don't see him going anywhere. If it was really about the money he'd a been long gone by now. This is a quest to "clear his name" everyone else and consequences be damned.

What suprises me, and really the only thing that surprised me about the story, was his comments. "Without any facts"? people are found guilty in our courts everyday based on testimony, interviews, with people. How are these interviews not facts. I am pretty sure that the Statesman is not making up its own stories. That is reserved for the bigger news outlets. And exactly what work is he doing for Idaho. The man was stripped of any leadership posts in the Senate and is sitting on bills because he doesn't like them. He is just plain stubborn.

Honestly all I wonder any more is about his wife, how she is coming to terms...what her future will be after being duped.
(ok not all but ya know...)
