If you haven't yet read Nathaniel Hoffman's exposé in Boise Weekly on the paradox that is Idaho's Mr (no period) Pro-Life, Independent candidate for U.S. Senate, you should. It's chock full of revelatory gems, some of which you'll wish you had read after dinner or at the very least, swallowed first (trust me on this).
On his first wife:
"She had a psychiatrist who said because I didn't trust the water system, the school system, the government, I was paranoid," he said. "I had a psychiatrist who said her psychiatrist was stupid."
Paranoia or stupidity, either way she lasted long enough to bear him seven children.
Sufficiently enticed and appropriately warned, now go enjoy.

Huh - oddly, I don't trust this guy to decide who or what populates my uterus.

Asking others to do what you are not willing to do yourself isn't paradoxical, it's hypocritical.

"what populates my uterus" !?!
Sara, I'm seriously laughing so hard I have tears streaming down my face--I'd never heard it put quite that way. You're awesome!

I agree, great phrase! And you're right, he is a hypocrite as well as a paradox.

A paradox is right. I've met him a few times, the last time being when my car broke down on the freeway. He was the only one to stop and he turned around and drove me to the nearest town. During the trip he was not evangelic and never proselytized. He refused my offer of gas money until I said to take it as a donation for his son's summer church camp fund, reminding him of when he was peddling strawberries at the Eagle fun days to pay for it.
He is a paradox. Quiet, humble and unassuming in person. A complete loser when I watched him fumble in the debates. An organic farmer who just wants to be left alone while trying to make his views about reproductive rights the fascist law of the land.
But in the end he is harmless. His extremist pro-life views, although echoed by many in Idaho, are a single issue and he is inarticulate and ill informed on the other issues important to most voters. In fact I wish he would run for office on the local level and maybe draw off some of the paleo-con vote, making the republicans more vulnerable.
