Okay, cease fire. Apologies to my readers for being in the crossfire, but this is going to get out of hand unless someone does something and that someone will be me. I loathe drama so I'll only address this once and then it will either be resolved or it won't but I'm not going to address it again. My hope is that it is resolved because it's not good for two of arguably the best Idaho political blogs to be in a blog war.
It comes down to this:
- Adam believes I intentionally meant to personally and maliciously harm Rep. Steven Thayn. No explanation or insistence from me to the contrary will dissuade him from that belief.
- I believe that reporting the arrest of Rep. Steven Thayn's son was not a personal attack but reporting news. Adam's insistence to the contrary will not dissuade me from that belief.
So where do we go from here?
Neither of us is likely to back down from our positions so I'm suggesting we call a truce. For my part, I'll accept that Adam believes what he believes and that I can't do anything about it. So I'll move on, hopefully developing thicker skin. In turn, I hope that Adam understands that my reporting was not done maliciously and if not, at least accepts that I believe that it wasn't.
I made a mistake in letting this drama escalate and in taking Adam's Blog off the blogroll and I hope he accepts my sincere apology. I also hope that the personal attacks are over and we can at least be civil—especially during what should be a time of peace and goodwill.
Next stop, the Middle East.
Update: We have a truce.

The view is so much better from the high road.

~~^~^~^~^~~
Simply put, it's a matter of public record. Thayn is a public figure, a legislator. [The same held true for another former senator, although Democrat, whose two sons were arrested some time ago - last year?]
In light of my own experiences with domestic violence, my religious upbringing, my religious choices and faith, my religious training and education on the college level, I wrote about it today because it simply bugs the shit out of me that entire 'holier-than-thou', 'our god is better than their or your god' bullshit.
The logic employed by Adam is that even if it's matter of public record, you don't mention it or bring up. Outside of being illogical and flat-ass wrong, any public figure which most definitely includes public servants who serve the state as legislators are subject to scrutiny. Especially given the nature of their "platform" and values systme.
And for the record, I don't put any of those wingnuts on my blogroll. For that matter, I rarely read them because I can only take the insidiousness for so long.

Adam employed logic? I still say its like debating an unarmed man.
You have a truce but not mutual understanding. I read his post and the "debate" is still very one sided. His comments are malicious demonstrating an arrogance without any basis. I especially like "if I were a 'more' perfect man". If only. But I commend your action and I agree with your move.

Kitt, my goal here was to end the "bloodshed" so to speak. That doesn't mean that I agree in the slightest with Adam's point of view on any of this or that I intend to back down from vigorously pursuing issues.
However, I did make a mistake in escalating the situation and I *am* sincerely sorry for that.

Yes, I see. Whatever you feel you need to do. It's not for me to decide.
To be honest - I haven't followed the bloodletting as closely. I have read; the religious stuff just.....infuriates me.
I was simply struck by the absolute lack of logic on the part of, for one, Adam - as well as a couple of other posters. I was raised around this type of mindset and it sickens me especially in others' spirituality and worth.
If I'm "wrong" I will apologize and/or set the right straight. I'm not a backer-downer, and when it comes to the direction of this country and the "condition" of such, especially where I live, I will not be backing down any time soon.
Although not so local, a good case in point of the total absurdity of theocracy run amuck is that of the English teacher in Sudan who obliged her students and allowed them to name a teddy bear 'Mohammed.' I see today from Reuters, etc., there have been calls for her execution.
