So after putting in a full day of work in the sweltering 103 degree heat of Idaho's great outdoors today (sure could have used some of that global cooling the protesters at Al Gore's Boise speech were predicting), I return to find that GOP Congressman Bill Sali will have a primary opponent in 2008—an Iraq war veteran named Matt Salisbury.
From the Idaho Press-Tribune:
Matt Salisbury of Nampa, an Iraq war veteran recognized by President Bush, announced his intention Wednesday to seek Idaho’s 1st Congressional District seat. “The greatest issue driving my campaign,” he said, “is the belief that Idaho’s 1st Congressional District deserves a candidate whose singular drive is to independently serve the public trust in such a way that the people know they have a leader in Washington committed to serving his constituents rather than a political career.”
From The Olympian:
Matt Salisbury, 34, of Nampa, described himself as a "Lincoln Republican" who believes politicians should stay "out of your bedroom and out of your social mores."
"Idahoans deserve a candidate who doesn't represent social engineering, who doesn't represent anything other than carrying out the public trust," Salisbury told The Associated Press on Thursday.
Salisbury also says he's seeking support from veterans groups and
"I'd rather have folks give to charity, or to their neighbors, than having them blow a bunch a money on a politician," Salisbury said.
With two, potentially three, Democratic contenders and now at least one Republican challenger willing to take on Congressman Sali, it looks like 2008 is heating up in the 1st District.
Whew, now I could use a tall cold one.

I don't want to see you run for Congress because your values don't reflect the values I look for in a candidate for public office. You are not my idea of a candidate who would look out for my interests, but a candidate who is SP in your thinking. I want someone with Christian values who will fight for those who cannot defend themselves. I want a candidate who will support the family and the values we cherish. I do not want Matt Salisbury to run for Congress because I don't believe he has my best interests at heart or those of my fellow Idahoans. Thank you.

Poor Madlyn, so busy peeking in other people's windows, concerned with if they are infected with teh ghey. Unable to accept people for who they are, they look to the government to dictate social values and to make it illegal to be outside of a religious view of morality.
Well, Madlyn, are you really positive that you want to go back to a biblical form of government? How about stoning as a form of punishment? Are you still eating shellfish? Do you actually understand the story of Sodom or are you one of the brainwashed that believes it was actually about the act of sodomy?
And which interpretation of that "good" book do you suck up to? Which one is right? Have you learned to read Aramaic in order to fully grasp the oldest texts?

Although family values are important to me, illegal immigration ranks at the top. Sali is strong on both. I will vote for whoever is the strongest in cleaning up this illegal immigration mess and helps to give us our country back, instead of allowing citizens of foreign nations to take over.

Madlyn does not need to peek into windows. The leftist agenda is out there for all to see. I care about this country and have the right to express my views. You, also have the right to express your views. I, unlike you, don't stoop to personal attacks against someone I don't know because our views happen to differ.
