Idaho Congressman Bill Sali, the poster boy for Idaho's GOP fringe who like to use labels like "fiscal conservative warrior" when describing him, just secured a whole barrel of pork for Idaho according to press releases on his official website. See here and here.
Let's see what Idaho will get:
- $100,000 to help expand and enhance the nursing program at Northwest Nazarene University in Nampa, in the House Labor, Health and Human Services Appropriations Bill.
- $100,000 for Gritman Medical Center to purchase equipment for improving patient care and enhancing patient safety in Moscow, Idaho, as part of the Labor, Health and Human Services Appropriations Bill.
- $400,000 for a detox center in Boise.
- $500,000 for a widening project on U.S. 95 in the Transportation, Housing and Urban Development Appropriations Bill.
So Sali scores $1.1 million for Idaho interests, according to his figures, and while doing so jumps through hoops explaining why all of this is necessary spending. He cites nursing shortages, rising health care costs, transportation needs and whatnot. Each of these programs may indeed be worthwhile and deserving of taxpayer assistance.
The question is, how does Sali square bringing home $1.1 million for Idaho with his well-advertised disdain for earmarks and a bloated Federal budget? In fact Sali said in May that
Congress has decided that the government budget is more important than the family budget, and that the American taxpayer needs to be squeezed even harder to pay for a series of warped priorities and Congress’ inability to say no.
So how does Sali square these two opposing views? The point is that you can't. You can't claim to be a "fiscal conservative warrior" while proudly bringing home the bacon for Idaho.

In Idaho,if your a republican you can do what ever you want.look at craig,he has sex with boys and votes to keep killing americans in iraq and nobody cares.they will probably make him our next govenor.

Jim, while I appreciate your frustration over the one-party rule we live under here in Idaho, we should note that the accusations against Larry Craig are that he's gay, not that he sleeps with boys, big difference there. Also those accusations are not confirmed. Repubs in Idaho are doing plenty of things we can complain about without exaggerating them.
