[Goat's Note: The MountainGoat Report among other things is dedicated to keeping watch over Idaho's 1st District Congressman Bill Sali. In light of that, a regular feature of MGR is the Sali Vote watch. In the Sali Vote posts, a record of Congressman Sali's votes for the day will be reported, usually focusing on extreme minority votes, but also featuring votes on key issues and occasionally others. It will not attempt to include Sali's entire voting record.]
Today Idaho Congressman Bill Sali voted against designation of the Columbia-Pacific National Heritage Area.
HR 407 Columbia-Pacific National Heritage Area Study Act — To direct the Secretary of the Interior to conduct a study to determine the feasibility of establishing the Columbia-Pacific National Heritage Area in the States of Washington and Oregon, and for other purposes.

Congressman Sali — No
Congressman Simpson — Yes
Republican Position — Yes
Democratic Position — Yes
Result — Passed 294-80
A similar measure is being considered in the Senate where Jerry Ostermiller, president of the Columbia River Maritime Museum testified before the Senate Subcommittee on National Parks.
This designation will certainly attract entrepreneurs, investors and business owners as well as vacationers, family groups and retirees, all of which will enhance our local sustainable economic development. But more importantly it will allow us to celebrate and share the area’s diverse cultural and historical significance as well as the awesome natural beauty and grandeur of the Columbia Pacific with all the citizens of the nation.

In an interesting twist, Sali voted "yes" on this similar bill way out in Kansas:
Lower Republican River Basin Study Act -- To authorize the Secretary of the Interior to conduct a study to determine the feasibility of implementing a water supply and conservation project to improve water supply reliability, increase the capacity of water storage, and improve water management efficiency in the Republican River Basin between Harlan County Lake in Nebraska and Milford Lake in Kansas.
Only Ron Paul voted no. Just a guess here but how could Sali vote against something called The Republican River Basin.
