Idaho's First District Congressman Bill Sali continues his quest to embed himself with the tiniest of minorities. This time he's voted with 19 others against a bill that would authorize support of science and engineering researchers.
HR 363 Sowing the Seeds Through Science and Engineering Research Act — To authorize appropriations for basic research and research infrastructure in science and engineering, and for support of graduate fellowships, and for other purposes.

Democratic Position — Yes
Result — Passed 397-20
This is one of the more absurd votes from Congressman Sali in what's becoming a large collection of absurd votes as recorded here, here, here and here. Apparently it's evident to all but the very extreme that without support for science and engineering research, the U.S. would quickly fall behind the rest of the world in the development of technology, a robust economy and creation of high-wage jobs.
Are we surprised at the vote? No, we already suspected that Sali had something against science, plus last month he did sort of roll out his own plan to combat the loss of high-wage jobs in the West which included something about ranching. How in the world does Congressman Sali expect the U.S. to remain a world leader; it won't be with the development of more ranching jobs.
